The greens and the reds and Cudgel the Clever and the impossibility of compromise

Buddy’s Soap Box

A patriotic Texas howdy from Buddy

Insights into political circumstances sometimes come from unusual places. Here’s an example from a story written by Jack Vance, a great science fiction writer and a favorite of mine.  I don’t recall the name of the story I have in mind (I read it many years ago), but it involved a lovable rogue named Cudgel the Clever. Imagine a fantasy world where magic worked and wizards plied their trade and the general setting was something like the middle ages. Cudgel arrives at a town in need of clothing. He pilfers a red shirt from a clothes line, then a green pair of pants from another, whereupon he strolls down the village street. He doesn’t go far before he encounters a child who, upon seeing Cudgel, turns and runs away screaming in terror. Puzzled, Cudgel then encounters a milk maid who, on sighting Cudgel, likewise screams and flees.

So, what’s going on, wonders our little rogue? It turns out the village is divided into two factions that would make the Hatfields and the McCoys seem bosom brothers. After, we assume, a lot of killing and the like, the two factions found a way to live in harmony.  One faction dressed all in red, the other green, and each pretended not to see the other so that, after the passage of time, the greens and the reds mentally ceased to see each other, apart from a subliminal avoidance of each other and the other’s property. When Cudgel came to view, they screamed and fled, seeing (so they imagined) only half a man.

Vance’s story makes for a fun read, but sadly isn’t very persuasive as to how the woke and non-woke might compromise in the real world. Much as we wish the wokies weren’t there, so long as they continue to crap in the nation’s nest, we cannot ignore them.

And so, Buddy has absolutely no interest in attempting to do the impossible. When Biden and his communist cohorts go on about healing the nation’s divide, about our coming together as a nation, about healing, about unity, they mean not a word of it and we know it. The woke mob’s only goal is to subjugate the entire nation under a regime that best resembles something that broke out of Bedlam. Trying to reason with, trying to compromise with, trying to work with the insane will only make us equally insane.

Better we stand and fight and that is exactly what we must do, not in the streets as they do—we will not burn and loot and attack the police—but at the ballot box. The sane of this nation are the solid majority. In fair and honest elections—the opposite of what the Democrat Party is pushing for—we will win, putting into office true men and women who will represent the honest, hard-working core of this nation. That effort will be made all the easier by the woke opposition. They will have done so much damage to this nation that by 2022 that sane America will be desperate and determined to see new, competent leadership.

The choice will be stark.  A free market economy OR communism. Freedom of speech OR the suppression of speech. Elected government via honest elections OR totalitarian government via fraud. The 1619 Project and critical race theory OR America, the shining city on the hill. The death culture of abortion OR civil rights for the unborn. A thousand genders OR the two. Race pitted against race by a calculating elite OR people standing together as one for a better country.

We will win, but it won’t be easy.  The wokies are currently bankrupting the nation, trying their best to buy loyalty in every way they can, further distilling the nation into two groups. If you are thinking black and white, you are wrong. We of all colors are the same color pawn in the elite eye.  What matters to the woke elite of government, big business, big tech, the no-longer-teaching establishment, isn’t our color. What matters is how many makers (those that work and pay taxes) and how many takers (those that only consume) there are. Makers see their dollars evaporate out of their pockets as government squanders billions. Takers love it. They get stuff free for nothing and lick the boot of a progressively more totalitarian government.

The problem with all that, the reason the Democrat woke mob will fail and fall hard, is that no nation endures without makers.

The takers will continue to take. But the makers will not take it anymore. We, with the help of  President Donald Trump and men and women like him, will TAKE back this nation from the Bedlam party.

After further deliberation, Facebook has decided President Donald Trump should remain permanently banned from their platform. Republicans now say they will move to pass legislation that will break up Facebook into several smaller companies.  Soap Box says, “No, no, no,” even more loudly than the Democrats. Government intervention would only make matters worse, resulting in several woke left-wing Facebooks where we now have one. A better solution would be to let the public and the market deal with Facebook’s decision to ban opinion it doesn’t favor.

The rise of an alternative to Facebook is now inevitable. Let Zukerberg’s baby censor all it wants. Meanwhile, the new “Openbook” will welcome any and all views fairly and equally. Creating a site that mirrors the function of Facebook is easy. Getting subscribers was the hard part, but Facebook has now made that a done deal. A site that will welcome all comers, including President Donald Trump, is a site that will be Facebook’s instant big-time competitor. Soap Box says, “See you there, my friends!”

Tennessee has banned Critical Race Theory in its schools.  A growing number of states, including Texas, are in the process of banning this nonsense. This kind of social poison, with its origin in our woke universities, has no place in the color-blind America Martin Luther King envisioned and what we now, to all intents and purposes, now have.

Students CONDEMN BLM after they learn where their money is REALLY going.  There are plenty of good causes in the world, left, right and center, but there are also plenty of people who stand ready to take advantage of the well-meaning by diverting contributions to private pockets. Always look before you leap.

The Texas House passed legislation this week to establish the “1836 Project,” which Joshua Pierce reports would in many ways mirror President Trump’s “1776 Project.”

House Bill 2497 by State Rep. Tan Parker (R-Flower Mound) would place a heavy emphasis on Texas’ children being educated in Texas civics, particularly the founders and founding documents. The bill passed on a vote of 124-19 and now heads to the Senate for consideration.

There is the “audacity of hope” and then there is the “audacity of pettiness,” aka Liz Cheney.

It will be EASY to defeat the woke wimps. We outnumber them, we outthink them, and we will clobber them in the 2022 elections assuming elections remain free and honest.

This week’s Aesop’s Fable: The Dancing Monkeys

A prince had some monkeys trained to dance.  Being naturally great mimics of men’s actions, they showed themselves most apt pupils, and when arrayed in their rich clothes and masks, they

danced as well as any of the courtiers.  The spectacle was often repeated with great applause, ‘till on one occasion a courtier, bent on mischief, took from his pocket a handful of nuts and threw them upon the stage.  The monkeys at the sight of the nuts forgot their dancing and became (as indeed they were) monkeys instead of men.  Pulling off their masks and tearing their robes, they fought with one another for the nuts.  The dancing spectacle thus came to an end amidst the laughter and ridicule of the audience.

Moral of the story: Not everything you see is what it appears to be, especially when one sees the monkeys for what they are—politicians scrambling for corporate political contributions.

The following are excellent resources for those of us (way more than 75 million strong) who want full and honest news reporting. We’ll be adding to this list as we go along. Those who prefer filtered news—only the news deemed safe for them to know—can stay with the legacy media, such as it is.

Here’s a great way to join thousands—and eventually millions—of others who are letting their government representatives know their thoughts on pending legislation.  Heritage Action for America from the Heritage Foundation makes doing so super EASY! They do the research. They inform you. Then in almost the blink of an eye, you contact your federal or state representatives regarding pending legislation expressing your support or opposition.

Columns worth reading

Each week under this heading, I’ll include columns or intros to columns you can read in full elsewhere on the internet. Each of these columns pretty much express our Soap Box views, else we’d not be sharing them with you.

Some people do nothing. Some act on their convictions. One way we can act is by contributing to organizations that deliver honest news and good arguments far better and beyond what we as individuals have the opportunity to do. Two such organizations are cited here, one relatively new to the cause of freedom, the other a longtime soldier in the trenches. Look them over and if you are pleased with what you find, consider contributing to the cause.

Story #1: As you know, Soap Box Buddy is a subscriber to the Epoch Times.  Both online with frequent email updates and via an excellent weekly newspaper delivered via the mail, Epoch Times delivers news the woke media and big tech don’t want us to see. I have found it an invaluable tool that insures I get the whole picture, not just the left-leaning view.

Story #2: Buddy has been a supporter of Morton Blackwell’s Leadership Institute for at least the last twenty years. Morton is one of my all-time living heroes in a time when real heroes are getting harder to find. Here is a recent message I received from Mr. Blackwell.

Story #1: After donating to Epoch Times, Buddy received the following thank you email which we wish to share with you.

Dear subscriber,

Thank you for your generous donation! We just wanted to send along a quick note to tell you that yes, we received it, that we’re very grateful you chose us, and that we’re absolutely delighted to find someone like you who believes in us and our mission.

You probably already know, but it’s not been easy for us as an independent media. As we’ve grown, so has the target on our backs, and though we’ve gotten used to interference, smears, and attacks over the last 20 years, sometimes it still looks bleak out there. Sometimes we wonder if we’ve done too little and started too late.

But people like you give us hope and a reason to keep going, because the fact that we found you means that there may still be more people like you out there––people who still believe in honest journalism and the values that have preserved the best of humanity since the start of civilization. To us, each and every reader is a reminder of where we all once were as a people, and a reason to believe that we will make it back.

Your donation will be used to fund our printing materials and pay our staff so that we can continue to improve your news experience. However, we see it as more than just funds––to us, it’s a vote of confidence in a brighter future for journalism, this country, and the world. To us, it’s a sign that the light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer and closer. Thank you again for the gift you’ve given us. We’ll be sure to use it well.

Story #2: An update from Morton Blackwell’s Leadership Institute.

Buddy,

Big Tech censorship finally came after your Leadership Institute’s Campus Reform.

The left and their Big Tech cronies recently launched a new assault on your Leadership Institute’s Campus Reform. But with your support, my team fought back and won.

Let me share with you what happened.

Last month, your Leadership Institute’s Campus Reform team published a man-on-the-street interview video on our YouTube channel.

In the video, my team asked students at the University of Florida to comment on the recent lavish spending of the co-founder of the Black Lives Matter organization — a savagely anti-capitalist group.

Though you and I know better than to be surprised, the students were shocked at the hypocrisy on display by this radical leftist.

After the video was uploaded, YouTube censored it. They added a warning which claimed the video “contained offensive content” and forced viewers to accept before they could watch it.

You can watch the video for yourself to see what the radical left found so “offensive”: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPMRjRMm7Pk

My Campus Reform team took action right away.

Thanks to your support, Campus Reform’s 53 student correspondents knew just how to respond. They took to social media to expose this ridiculous censorship and blatant leftist bias.

And their efforts worked.

While my team prepared to challenge this censorship formally, YouTube caved to the public pressure my correspondents generated and removed the offensive content warning.

That’s the kind of impact you have.

Thanks to the training you provided and the student network you helped me build, Campus Reform challenged the radical leftist agenda — and won.

Buddy, your support helps my Campus Reform team expose such leftist hypocrisy for millions of Americans to see.

Thank you for your support of the Leadership Institute’s Campus Reform. You make a tremendous difference in the fight to protect free speech and spread the truth of conservative principles.

Cordially,

Morton C. Blackwell
President, Leadership Institute
